Excel Regional Compatability Problem?
Hi Everyone,
I've recently started my own business selling engineering-orientated software. So far I've only made one application, which is an Excel-based spreadsheet for determining the performance of rainwater harvesting systems.
The problem I am having is that I am based in the UK and I've had a few emails from people in the US who have tried to download the demo Excel file, which is basically the application but with most of the features disabled, and they say it doesn't work. E.g. they get errors when they try to open it, or it opens but the text and objects within the app. are garbled.
It works on every machine that I've tried in the UK (mine and some friends of mine) so I was thinking can it have anything to do with Window's region settings? I can't think of anything that should be different - Windows and Excel are supposed to be the same everywhere, after all.
Can anyone think why my app seems to work fine in the UK but not in the US?
If anyone from outside the UK wants to have a look at it for me, here's the link:

It has macros in it - I promise they are safe! They won't damage your PC or anything stupid like that. Or you could disable them and just see if the front-end looks okay - it should be a flow-chart if it's working properly, but the reports I've been getting have said that the flow-chart objects are messed up, so obviously something's not right somewhere.
Cheers

Re: Excel Regional Compatability Problem?
I can see the flowchart fine on my system. Excel 2003. I enabled the macros and tested and I clicked on the first flowchart
object and it went to another sheet displaying data, etc.
Why is the file so large? You should zip it and provide a link to WinZip in case they dnt have it.
What versions did they report the issues on?
Re: Excel Regional Compatability Problem?
RobDogg,
The system the other guy tried it on was WinXP running Office 2003. If it works on yours (sounds like it does) then it should have worked on his, I would have thought.
Are you in the US as well?
Cheers

Yes, I'm in the California. I am running XP SP2 w/Office 2003 SP1
Maybe ask the user to update their Office over
at Office Update site. It didnt appear to have any issues. Everything appeared correctly and readable.

Now that's freeking weird..... That's exactly what I'm running.... I've tried on several machines, all running XP sp2, Office 2003.... although I have to admit I'm not sure I have the Office SP installed.... probably not...... hmmm... will need to give that a try...

Re: Excel Regional Compatability Problem?
Just tested on our Windows 2000 Terminal Server running Excel 2000 9.0.4402 SR-1 and again looked and ran fine.
I'll test on my laptop in a while when I get time.

Well, now don't I feel like an arse..... switch browsers and it works.... I wonder of Fx was doing something funky with it when downloading it. Seems to work fine once I grabbed it with IE. Go fig.

Re: Excel Regional Compatability Problem?
Its probably a corruption issue since its not in .zip format on the site.
Being zipped would be a big improvement in DL time.
