Well at school we have these awful donated dot matrix printers, but at least they work. We only have one problem, if two people print at the same time in mixes their text together. I thought maybe it would be possible to make a program that pretends its a printer, everybody prints to the fake printer which organizes everything before sending it to the real one. Anybody know how to do this?
-
I don't think its possible unless you make your own word processor...Dot Matrix printers  ? I thought those were extinct!
-
Darn
lol, Are you sure? Couldn't I make the computer think its hardware since its a network printer?
-
There probably is a way but not that I know of
-
C'mon
Aww, c'mon guys, somebody must know how to do this, you gurus have any idea?
-
???

LOOK
-
Grrrr

lol

!!!
-
How are the two dot-matrix printers currently set up? Are they connected to computers, or just one through a switch-box, or what?
-
This is kinda getting funny :D Im still laughing about the DOT MATRIX! :D!!!!!!!!!!!!

Novel
they are hooked up to a novel netware network, I can get more info once I know if its possible, thanks for responding, finally

Hmmm...I don't know much about how Novell works I'm afraid. You've got my sympathy though - using any kind of printer when it's shared between a big group of people usually sucks.
Are you sure there isn't something that can be set up through the Novell server that can let the print-jobs through one at a time or something?
-
Nope
already looked at that, problem is what we are doing, programming in pascal, prints line by line
-
Aww cmon
-
Hey
If you can tell me the version of Novell Netware (the best NOS around) I 'may' be able to help!:)
Check you later

I managed to pick up an Intel NetportExpress Pro print server for about £35 a couple of weeks ago. It's worked perfectly on my Panasonic dot-matrix.

I believe there are some pieces of software called virtual printers which fake the OS to be a printer, but is actually just a program.
Maybe you'll find some info at microsoft.com
-
If you have a Windows machine anywhere just connect the printer to it and it will handle all the job spooling for you.

Thanks
Ill check it out, i think its novell 3.4
