add a "favorite posts" section?
it'd be nice if people could add a bunch of their favorite posts to their usercp. A lot of times I find a post really helpful but then after a few months I want to reffer back to it and look it over, and I cant find it. I know there is a search feature and that you can subscribe to posts, but I think it'd be really nice if users could choose certain posts that are helpful to them and add it to a list that they can reffer back to for reference :D
is this gonna be a lot of work to implement? :D
Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
Yes it would be, but how about this for a workaround. Send yourself a PM (or an email) that contains the URL that you want to be able to refer back to.

:D I know, but it'd be SOOO convinient if there was just a link on the post that I could click and it'd do it automatically:(
Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
I was trying to use the Subscribed Threads feature in the user control panel. You can create your own folders
and store your subscriptions and stuff, but it has a bug in it where you cant move the subscriptions into any
folder. So until that is fixed, I have to resort to creating a folder in my IE Favorites just for VBF Favs.
Maybe you could do that instead, for the time being?

Click Thread tools when viewing the desired thread. Then click "Email this page..." and it will create a VBF email
ready for you to send. All thats left to do is either edit it or click send (after you filled out the receipient).

No prob. :thumb:
I had come accross it before but never used it until now. :D
Still would like the subscription folders bug fixed though. Better and easier to use.
Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
I have a bookmark folder in Fx that is called FAQ. I store links to all FAQ in that folder. It is the easiest workaround I have found. Not that hard to maintain.

Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
Those running FF could aslo try ScrapBook, just open its sidebar, and drag the link into it. It grabs a copy of the page and stores it. You can also add your own notes to it. I've been using it a lot lately when I find something on the internet. Fully viewable offline, and you can organize into folders too!

Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
ScrapBook? Sounds pretty sweet.
Cheers dude :thumb:
Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
I'm kind of curious - why can't you simply add to the IE Favorites when you have the thread you like on the screen?
Why doesn't that work?

You can. I just like the idea of putting notes onto a local copy of a website :D

Anything else you would like us all to host for you? :bigyello:

You can also do it with the Private Calendar, but you would have to go back to the day that you added it in order to retieve the link :(. At least it
would reside on the site so you can access it from any location.
Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
Actually, you can put them in any post you want - create a post - put it in a forum category that no one visits often and hide it there.
Or find your first post ever and put them there...
Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
But then you risk the chance a post getting deleted and loosing all your links. :(

I like the idea of putting it in the signature then - if you find it helpful, then other looking at you might find it helpful also.
Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
You should only put links in your signature that are useful to other people. Understand however that the length of your signature is limited. My signature is at the maximum allowed length.

I was kind of joking - the joking started with "anything else you would like us to host for you!"...
Re: add a "favorite posts" section?
New thing. I have been thinking about making an extension to do the same work for a long time. Just never found the time for it. But now when I have started to use the Flock browser, I actualy found out that there is all ready a service like this. Just started to use it. You can "star" a page, and it will be bookmarked on your own account on a page called del.icio.us. Then you can have your bookmarked shared among all the computers you are using.
I guess you can use what ever browser you want for this, but it is only integrated in Flock AFAIK. The only CON here, is that you have to have your bookmarks public. So anyone who wants to see them, will see them. I.e my bookmarks are here now:
