Not really VB, need need quick help?
DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW
What is the difference, and why would a HP DVD Writer not be DVD-R compatible?
DVD+R are more expensive?, is that true?
any help on this matter would help basically i have a PC that has a DVD burner and through Nero 6, it can not burn DVDs, however found out, that it doesnt support DVD-R/RW???, havent got a clue why?,
model is HP Writer 300n
Thanks for any help, cheers
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
some are +, some are - and some are both, it wont burn a dvd-r if it is a dvd+r writer. the discs are slightly more expensive but yet, correct me if i am wrong, dvd-r are more compatible with standalones.

but why would i have a DVD Writer on a PC machine, that cant see DVD-Rs?? well once there burned it does?, but cant burn onto them?
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
in your screen shot it shows that it can only burn on dvd+r, it can read dvd-r but if they are blank it wont support it because it cant burn to it.

Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
Yeah But Why???
90ish % Of Dvd Media Is Dvd-r???
Why Wouldnt The Drive Support It?
dvd-r IS CHEAPER ISNT IT?
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
Because it doesnt support it.
They are 2 different standards and they didnt license both - and +.
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
Bit Of A Bugger If You Ask Me, Means You Have To Pay The Extra To Get The Dvd+r/rw Disks
Nothing I Can Do Is There??
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
+ and - are pretty much the same price.
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
You could smack yourself for not getting a +/- dvd burner :p
Buy a DVD burner that supports both formats.
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
You can thank the legends who split it up for that. This caused much confusion back in the day when it was one or the other, pitty there's no hard evidence that proves why you should use - instead of + (None that I've found).
And guess what, they're doing it again with Blu-Ray and DVD-HD. Why they can't just stick with developing Blu-Ray, I got no idea.
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
What I hate most is how (my) laptops allow you to change the Regions only 5 times after which you're stuck. What does a traveller like me do in such a case?
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
All drives do this (both my LG dvd/cd burners do this) but you may be able to find a firmware upgrade/patch to change this...
I beleive AnyDVD (software) defeats this protection :D
Re: Not really VB, need need quick help?
There's also some DVD Region Killer. I just hate having to do this though. Doesn't go well witht he "sanctity" of the whole thing. *sigh*
