Programs Wont Work With 1 GB RAM??
We have a dedicated PC for number crunching that gets upgraded every so often to the highest spec possible.
We are upgrading now and I wanted to replace my current PC with the old number cruncher.
Our IT department reckons that because it has 1GB RAM some of the business applications wont work with it? :ehh:
Our business applications are based around Oracle.
Does this sound like BS to you?

Try tasting it.... if it smells like it, looks like it, and tastes like it, then it must be.
To the best of my knowledge, unless it's a fairly older app, I don't think it'll have any problems. As long as the OS can handle it..... unless there's something they know that they aren't sharing (or are they just guessing it won't work?)

Re: Programs Wont Work With 1 GB RAM??
I can't see why it would be a problem, the operating system should dish out the RAM, and as long as the OS supports it, it should be right.
Re: Programs Wont Work With 1 GB RAM??
Thats what I thought.
I reckon they just dont want to give it to me
Re: Programs Wont Work With 1 GB RAM??
Yeah, I'd say that they are just tring to keep the box for themselves...
I got 1GB of DDR ram in this machine and everything runs fine.
OS: WinXP Pro SP2
You may have issues if your os was NT4 or 9X (i think the memory limit is 1GIG or 4GIGS for 9x)
Re: Programs Wont Work With 1 GB RAM??
RAM allocation is managed by your OS so it doesn't really matter. The only apps that would ever need that kind of RAM space are the top end games, and most of them will work happily on 512MB of RAM :thumb:
