Setting up E-mail accounts
Hello Everyone:
Can anyone tell me if and how I can use MS Outlook 2000 to send and receive E-mail’s on two PC’s on the same network, when neither of them is connected to the Internet?
If MS Outlook 2000 can’t do it can you recommend a program that can?
Thanks
Art W
Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
I assume that you are running your own Exchange Server since if the computers
dont have internet access they can connect to your ISP's mail server.
Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
you configure office to access an Exchange Server. I know that it wasn't possible to switch before, but it may be now.
Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
What if both computers are running eitrher XP or XP Pro, more like a home network. No server involved?
Thanks

Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
then you can't get email. an exchange server has to have internet access, but it can send the messages within the network to computers that don't have access. What are you trying to do?
Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
Step 1: Get an internet connection.
Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
What I am trying to do is send a e-mail type message from one PC to another, both could be running either MS XP or MS XP Pro, Neither has a internet connection, but are on the same network. I.E. say you have a small factory with only a few computers and you want to send a e-mail to someone say that may not here a phone or works a different shift or you may not want to be overheard? It does not have to be a e-mail but I would prefer to use MS Outlook.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Art
Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
you could use SEND to send a message the first time they log on to the network
Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
You could install a free email server on one machine and configure an email client like Eudora or Outlook Express to use them. This way, you have an in-house email system.
Or, shell out some good bucks and get an Exchange Server. That'd be good for an organization with say... 200 computers.
Re: Setting up E-mail accounts
how about using net meeting. just dial the ip address and use like msn messenger. instant chat, file sharing, webcam viewing and even the ability to use remote desktops. :D
