Cannot Execute Binary file error

What could cause this error? When i connect over SSH to a UNIX server and try to run a certain file I get this error but when I am on the computers in Uni and run the program on the Redhat Machines it works fine (runs in console still). I mentioned this to a lecture and they said if they Telnet from their office it works fine. I also got a friend to try using SSH from their home PC to see if they got the same error as me and they did.
Is it possible that the file will only run if the connection is from within the Network and not over the internet? I find that unlikely but i can't think what else it could be. :confused:

check the permissions. if other apps will run, then yours should.
