Here Is My Situation, Help!
Okay, I'm in high school and right now I'm starting to learn VB.NET. I recently got the opportunity to join a computer programming class that starts next year. The class will be over Java. My question is what should I do right now? Continue my work on VB.NET (Which I'm enjoying a lot) or what? Thanks
Re: Here Is My Situation, Help!
Its always good to be prepared no matter what its for. I would suggest that you continue to learn .NET, but also learn Java on the side. This would allow you to have a head start on your classmates and potentially get better grades. .NET, in my opinion, will continue to grow in populatity. Its not going anywhere so its good to learn it. It also depends on what type of programming your going to want to do for a living (if thats you career choice).

Yes. Sometime pretty soon I have to make a website for one of my teachers, I think I will learn PHP to do that... I think I may be over loading myself.

It depends on what you want the webpage to do. If it is simple, then you can use a canned program to do the work for you automatically. If it is anything more, then you could learn php or asp.
Re: Here Is My Situation, Help!
you could also use ASP.NET to make your teachers site too.

Wouldn't it make more sense to use ASP.NET or JSP if your going to be trying to learn VB.NET and Java anyway?
Re: Here Is My Situation, Help!
Oh... Why would learning ASP.NET or JSP make more sence for me to learn than PHP? Sorry that's probably a stupid question!
Re: Here Is My Situation, Help!
Both DeadEyes and myself are thinking that since your learning .NET
that ASP.NET is a good companion, similar to a point. Where as PHP is good
to learn just as much, but its a completely different language.

Re: Here Is My Situation, Help!
Oh alright... That sounds good. Also my next question is, I'm in Algebra I this year (Freshman). Should I double up next year and take Algebra II and Geometry so I can take calculus my senior year?
Re: Here Is My Situation, Help!
maybe take Algebra II in summer school. if you take two math classes, it's easier to fall behind if you get confused.
Re: Here Is My Situation, Help!
Forgive me but its been a long time since I was in high school, but isn't Algebra II
just Trigonometry? If it is then yes, if you cant get into smmer school, double
up on Algebra II and Geometry. They are different in the respect that in
Geometry you are proving theorums and drawing shapes, etc. Where as in
Algebra II only prerequisits Algebra I. Geometry has the same prerequisits as
Algebra I. So you should be able to learn both at the same time. It is allot
though.
Whatever you do make sure you plan it all out so you can be prep'ed for colledge. :thumb:
Re: Here Is My Situation, Help!
I think you are right about Algebra II being Trig... I don't think I'll be able to get into summer school, I go to a small school and summer school is only for the ones who fail... Thanks for all the advice! If all goes well at the end of the next school year I'll know TI-BASIC, VB.NET, ASP.NET, PHP, HTML, and JAVA... lol TI-BASIC;)
