[Serious] What do you think we'll have to pay?

Our company is just about to embark on a new project, and I've got the bosses on board with the idea that we need an experienced .NET developer. I've been part time with .NET for a couple years or so, and want someone better than me. Here's a first draft of the ad, I need to tell my bosses what to expect to pay for salary. Location is Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Any ideas?

-        Visual Source Safe

Preferred but not required:
-        Web Services
-        Smart Device Applications
-        Disconnected Applications

The ideal candidate will have real world experience designing, developing, testing, documenting,
deploying and maintaining multi-user applications.

Your best bet is to search monster or hotjobs for a list of similar jobs in your area.
If your boss monitors internet access, this will be a fun one to explain! :D

You'll also want to list years of relevent experience.
1-3? 3-5? 5 or more programming?

I'd be careful about getting someone better than you. What if they decide they don't need you after you get the new guy?

Good thinking, but I'm not scared. If anything it would force me to improve my skills. I'm also the programming manager, part owner and on the board of directors, so I'm pretty well embedded. Doesn't mean I can't loose my position, but if I do, well, that's my fault. I can handle a challenge. Just want someone with more real world experience in .NET than I have.

Unfortunately, can't find much on salaries for this in Albuquerque, but still looking.

You might have to hit a bigger city to get some positions.
Maybe try Denver or Phoenix? Then take a few percent off of those, but that should give you a rough idea.

Heh, I don't think the programmers are that scarce, it's the jobs that are scarce these days.

Yeah - you're right - should have said jobs, not programmers - guess in a way I think of it as one in the same.
