Lost Internet [RESOLVED]
There was work done on the DSL over the weekend, and it kept us down yesterday. Today, it was still down, and the ISP says that the line checks out fine.
Static DSL -> Cisco Firewall -> Switch and Static IP's for the desktops.
Nobody knows the password for the firewall, and DHCP has been turned off on the modem. I couldn't connect my laptop to the modem, and the firewall logs on to the modem.
Tomorrow, we're getting a replacement Firewall, and I bought a console cable to be able to log on to the modem.
The switch is working fine for the other half of the network, which is indepenant, based on a Unix system. Desktops require static IP's to be able to print to Unix printer (I'm not sure if this is necessary)
Q What do you think could have happened?
Things worked right for years
Q Should I change the modem to DHCP?.
I have a plan of attack, but I am just venting here, to see it in print, and to see if anyone has any comments, or any hints to give me on setting things up again?

Being the network guru that I am, when the ISP looses connection,
dont you need to re-cycle the DSL modem?
HTH
-
I did that first, after I had them do it, yesterday. I even cycled the router, and then, the switch. Then, ISP admitted that the lines were down. Today, I did everything, (except the switch) again.
Same thing. Nothing.
It may be the ISP still, but there was no way to confirm it. I just ended looking silly. (doesn't like looking silly) :ehh:

Oh, one more thing. Does your company have a static IP? Could
be that the modem is online but your other devices can not see
the new ip address (it may have changed)?
-
Yes, it is static. I would think that they would have told someone if it was going to change. I'll look at the modem thru a serial(console) cable tomorrow to see what's up. I could have done it today, if the modem wasn't set to respond to a static IP address.
Nobody had any idea which one it was giving out.
I'll have to set up the new firewall, that's why I asked if I should keep it static or change it to DHCP when I look at the modem.

Correction. It was Static. Someone requested it to be changed on November 1, and they just got around to it this week.
All is resolved!

Someone should fire the person that wanted it to be Dynamic.
