Seems odd that the slaughtering of civilians by a European nation gets no press.

The media dosent care about dead civilians. That's bad business.

Freedom Snipers
So now the French are killing innocent civilians in the Ivory Coast with troops they deployed without UN approval in a sovereign nation? In light of their stance with the recent situation with Iraq I think the height of hypocrisy comes to mind. As for why its not getting any press? My only guess is we only like to knock off those who are on top, had this been the US it would have made every paper across the globe. I can see the headlines now, "Evil Imperialistic US troops assassinating innocent civilians in the Ivory Coast!” and people marching in the streets chanting “No Blood for Cocoa”!

I thought you all knew the French like American things... even American foreign policy ideas. I think you should take it as a complement.
Jeez! I clicked on one before I noticed that it was 37 Megs. I cancelled it, though. .jpg's were pretty bad. not worth it.
Xanith, the French are in the Ivory Coast under a U.N. mandated mission.
Even more ironic.
Africa is seen as the mess created by European and American actions for the last few centuries. Each country has some colonial ties, and the country that did the damage is still expected to clean things up. Fact of life.
The french have to maintain hey cowardly surrender-monkey reputation sonehow. Blowing away joe public is a great and moreover safe way to do so.
They could probably be repelled by a kid with a catapult.
You support the pre-emptive depolyment of troops without UN approval in a sovereign nation.Quote:

So one must assume that your problem isn't with the deployment, nor even the murder of innocent civilians. Rather one has to conclude that you only have a problem with the level of press coverage.

Yeah its supported by the UN Security Council, the EU, and the US. But doesn't this seem like Imperialism at its worst? France supporting a corrupt government then trying to reassert control over a former colony when the people want something different. The same people up in arms over the Iraq situation should be equally outraged here.Quote:

I suspect they are equally outraged.
The only difference here is that there is no-one hanging around trying to purport that this is the morally 'right' thing to be doing . . .
As the original post bemoaned there is not much press coverage of the situation but as I understand it, it goes something like this:Quote:

The Ivory Coast was doing well, a model for the rest of Africa.
A civil war erupted (don't know why).
France went in to restore peace, and did so.
The U.N. came on board.
An air force jet bombed the French killing ten including an American.
The French responded by wiping out the entire air force.
Anti-foreigner riots ensued.
Resulting in civilians getting shot.
Now if this is accurate the air force jets would be government ones, so they are not really supporting them are they? and I don't think they are trying to gain control over the country again. but the true objectives of countries are hard to discern; does the Ivory Coast have oil?
Think that's good? Check this!

AhhHA!
The French Has No Military
There once was a time when they did a bit better than that. As for now: Nobody copies the French, and the French copy nobody.
I have to concede their wine's quite nice (even though it comes from California grapes at the the turn of the last century - most of it anyway)
and their foods good too
. . . if you like frogs, and horses . . .

So, then nobody has posted it. Ever!
No one has posted your picture, thank god...
But clearly no one has posted that France has no technology...
I wonder why not?
