service pack 2{resolved}
I installed service pack 2 about a couple of days ago. It has made my computer extremely slow, especially at startup. It now takes forever to run a program: Like when I click on a program it takes a while to bring it up and then it still runs pretty slow. I was wondering if anyone experienced the same thing or if anybody has any comments I would like to hear them.

it just takes longer to load. even coming back from hibernation.
I don't think anything can be done about it. I'd like to find out, too.

For me, it was slow booting up at first; so I turned off drive indexing (which I had off, it turned it back on), I turned off the Windows Firewall, and I turned off Automatic Updates.
After that, it booted up in a normal amount of time.
Did you defragment after installing SP2 ?
That could help with general slowness problems.
One thing I noticed was that Explorer.exe now takes up 1% to 3% of the processor usage constantly... annoying....

that's not a bad idea. I just looked, and things were from 13 - 27% fragmented, and defragging was suggested. I'll run it later and get back to you. Indexing has always been off, and the firewall is on.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll try defraging and see how that goes.

It took a LONG time, but it seems to be faster. I have to delete some stuff and run it again. I only have 13 of 60 G, but I have almost 5 G of backup files to get rid of. I may clear temp files, and the recycle bin. They are both over a year in the making.
