You can use just about any HD that you can find. Speed is an issue, as well as size. Get one from a well-known mfg, so that you don't have any problems. The last concern is reliability. That's where the mfg comes in.
Make sure that whatever capacity you choose is compatible with the controller on your motherboard, I think ATA/100 has a limit of about 137GB so if you get bigger than that, you'll need a mobo upgrade or an expansion card. Look for 7,200RPM also (for future proofing). Seagate I found are a very reliable brand, and they have 5 years warranty on their drives, which is a bonus.
Check up on the website for your motherboard. Didn't realize the limit that was refered to. Wonder why my buddy didn't have problems with his 200G? I think he has an ATA 100 board.
It would be an ATA-133 interface, i just had a look and ATA-100 does have a limit of 137GB.
I could be awkward and say he might have a SATA drive :D
