installation on xp
The setup was done via visual studio installer.
When installed on XP as adminstrator, non-admin user has problem running the application. Something to do with accessing Sysinfo.ocx.
However, if to install as non-admin user, there's a series of error during the setup process, but ignoring the message, the application proceed normally.
What could possibly be wrong here?
Secondly, how do you make shortcut to the application available to all users in XP? Currently, it's only available to the user who installed the application.

Non-Admin users do not usually have access to the Windows or
System32 folders. This is where some of the installation files
reside. So when they try to install it will give errors.
Since you have already installed the app as an admin, the files
are already in the system32 and windows folders. so if the user
runs the program it may run.
If you use the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel,
it will prompt you if you want to install for all users or just the
installer. if you didn't do it this way then you could just copy the
start menu items for the program to the All users start menu.
Same for any desktop shortcuts.

When installed through Add/Remove program, there was no prompt and the installation process is the same as installed via CD. I know this can be done manually, but I'd like to know if there are ways to make it available to all users automatically, without having the admin user to manually move/copy shortcuts.
The problem here is, non-admin user can't even start the application installed by admin user even though they have access to System32 folder.

hi,
welcome to msi hell...
you will end up needing to edit the properties that vs installer has built for U
U need "orca" from the platform SDK - do U have a msdn sub or get it thru ms-s site.
info on orca - http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;255905
----
my first guess is that the install is a per-user install and U want a per-machine installation (I want to install it on this machine and everybody be able to see/run it)
try these links
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...stallation.asp
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...s_property.asp
does that get U any further forward :)
