This has always been a problem, but never fixed for some reason.
Whenever &) is typed, it would show a winking smiley with an ampersand in front. I'm guessing this is due to & being & and when combined it becomes &).

Check the Disable Smilies in This Post checkbox under the Your Reply window.
Well I know that, or else I wouldn't haven been able to easily post the first post ;) .
But newbies don't know that, and many people wouldn't bother, so it makes the code broken when you copy and paste.
i doubt the vB team thought of this when they were making it :p
anyway this one would probably require source tampering and as you know VBF guys refuse to change the forum source
Isn't there just a listing of smilies in the settings one can change if he wants, much like in phpBB? You can make any word a smilie in phpBB if you want to... and remove/edit the old ones. I guess this feature shouldn't be out of question in vBulletin?

it wouldn't be that bad, just make sure ;-) still works
