Local Server

hi there,

can i make the local server(on lan) to other PC connect with it thru FTP like we connect to remote pc..

or smtp services to sending mail thru local Server

Yes you can - its best to install Linux on the server as it comes with a choice of FTP, Mail and Web servers - and also the Samba server to share files with Windows. :D

Yes and you don't need Linux at all. If you have Windows 2000 or greater, install IIS and it has a mail server, FTP server etc.

You don't need Linux, but in my opinion it is a better option. It gives you more choice and is more stable in my opinion.

I run IIS and Windows, and I've never had a single problem with it yet, leave it running for months w/o any problems and it's as stable as a rock, but that's me, I don't intend to turn this into a huge uncontrolled winge fest, just saying that it is just as good, if not better.

He he , yeah that's just my opinion. I prefer a command line interface which is why I prefer a Linux server. Its also free :D - which also scores points in my book.

I have no interest in starting a Linux v's Windows argument. So I'll shut up now before the likes *id and *****sux hijack this thread :D
