If you want it illegally, go to a warez site. If you want to legally buy it (recommended) than yes, you have to pay $500 for it. If you are a student however, you can get it at acedemic pricing for about $100 USD.
If you want the Learning/Intro edition, you can probably get it for around $40 - $50.
I recomend buying it off of http://www.ebay.com
I am reading this thread and realise how happy i am.In
my country every CD is 1$.So you can get VC++ enterprise,
VS,Win2000 Advanced Server or what ever you like for 1$ for a CD. I can't find legal software anywhere cos evrybody is using illegal and that is perfectly legal.
One Dollar and you can have what ever you want. All my software worths around 50,000 $.
Vlatko, what country r u from?
if you are talking about software makers like microsoft, even if piracy is legal in your own country, it's illegal for your country to even have it due to International Lisence and agreement, if a country cannot abide by copyright laws to an international software, it is illegal on international laws to import that software. Least thats how I understand it, but in your case, since it's the indivisual people who probally pirated it off the internet, they burn bunch of CDs and sell them, also considering that such acts are legal in your country would mean there is no fear of being locally investigated, however if an international investigations occurs (which I doubt they could do so easily) you would be held up for international laws.
Least thats the way I understand it.
There is no chance that any person will be blamed for piracy
because the country itself should take appropriate measures to stop piracy.
International investigations???
Not a chance.
Are you in Russia, by any chance? Because I was reading an article about how BG had gone there to try and stop people pirating his software. The thing with piracy is - large companies, it doesn't matter so much. If they're a small company, then they depend on it more, so they need to be paid. Microsoft fits comfortably into the former :D.
No im in the US. I wish I was in madagascar where i've heard software is dirt cheap! I would not feel bad about pirating Microsoft(not that I do it alot) software becasue your right there fortune is great enough!
MPreston, I think he was asking Vlatko if he was in Russia.
But if everyone in the world pirated a piece of softwae once, think of how much Microsoft will be loosing.
Maybe next time you go on a business trip, (to another country) you can stop by at the software store and buy it at a cheaper price.
There was a guy whose a friend of mine, and worked for either AMD or Intel(he worked for both, but not sure which he's working at now, he gets like 6 months breaks from time to time) anyways, he went to Taiwan or one of those countries for a business trip, and he brought ALOT of software, really dirt cheap, even got a bunch of RDRam for about 35$(equivilant) a peice, of course theirs no garantee it'll work, anyways when bording the plane to go back home, Customs asked about all the retail software he had, he just said they were BETAs and they let he go through.
Within reason I think piracy is ok to a point, I know what programmers go though to make decent software and I don't hestitate to pay for it. Its just i've spent enough on Microsoft software, but I will pay some more for it if I have too.
piracy is not a good thing, but there is not much companies can do about it, except threatening people with copyright violation laws.
