Login problem
I log in to a certain site on one pc OK, but I have a problem with my win98 pc at home. I log in and the site successfully returns the main page with my username displayed. When I navigate to another page or refresh, my username is lost (guest is displayed so I can't enter new threads) although I remain logged in according to the logged in users list.
I have cookies enabled.
Is there some setting that was corrupted and needs fixing?

Are you sure it uses cookies to store your login information?
If so the cookie may be corrupt. You should be able to delete the cookie file (same name as the site), then the next time you log in it will create the cookie again.
Staying on the "logged in" list doesn't mean much, as web servers cannot tell which people are still looking at their site, so the count you as logged in for a while after you disconnect (or almost immediately if you log out).

sometimes that happens to me too. chalk it up to bad web design. (make sure that cookies are on for the 98 machine to see if that solves the problem) if it does, you could put that site in a zone that has different settings (for cookies)

make sure you click the LOGOUT button at work. it may figure that you are already logged on when you try from home.

I checked my win2k pc at work for the cookie of that site and it was present.
There was no cookie present on my win98 pc, even after login. Cookies are enabled and my win98 pc works for vbforums, so I'm puzzled.
I'm thinking of copying the cookie from the working pc to the win98 pc. Would that work?
-
do you have any software that prevents cookies from loading?
you could try to copy the cookie, I haven't tried it.

That's because of the way now these forums work. IE has some bug and that's why it happens. Stick to mozilla and that won't ever happen again

Ok, thanks.
Site sucks anyway. :D
