This is theoreticl Question
im new website builder.
i have already designed my website in photoshp and want to transfer it to HTML.
i want to create table which will be the frame of the web site - should the table height and width vlaues be 100% or decide the values in precentage (%). meaning width 760 heght 410
more design tips will be more appreciated.

Don't use tables of rlayout purposes, learn CSS and use DIVs instead.
Oh, and use percentages.
Fabulous. Now throw it all away and start over with what a good web designer would do, the coded structure. IMO, designing a website in Photoshop is the WORST places to start (or finish for that matter).Quote:

I definitely disagree with you on this point ober. Making a quick draft / sketch in photoshop (or any other graphics program, I like to use illustrator for this' isn´t bad at all. It actually makes the process of coding the html easier since you already know what it will look like, you know before hand how many elements you need, how many div´s you´ll need to put in the page to make up the layout etc. As long as you don´t convert your site to an image there´s nothing bad about it imo.
i know what is css and what are div tags - whats wrong with tables??? how do i use divs in order to obtain the same results???

First, I'm with Acidic and Ober on this one. Tables are bad juju. Tables are for displaying TABULAR data, not for layout control. Consider this: You build a layout, using tables, say three cols, since that's pretty typical. but now you want to move a few things around, move something from the left to the right and maybe something from the right to the left. It can easily get messed up when dealing with tables, making sure hte colspans and the rowspans are right, pluss all the width.... With CSS, change the alignment from right to left and left to right, and it's done. Use table-less design also allows you to give the user a choice of what "skin" or look they want to have.

As for Photoshot and Illustrator.... they are not web page tools, there's a reason they are called PHOTOshop and ILLUSTRAtor and not Webshop and Webastrator.... Shoot, that's like using MSWord to layout your webpages.

OK - i was convinces that css is better from tables altough the programming seems little bit more complicated. im little bit familiar with css. where can i find a whole project / website from which i can view the Html and Css files in order to learn the infustructure???

And the code actually becomes simpler. Simpler to make and simpler to maintain.
You got me wrong here, I´m not talking about making the layout itself in Photoshop / Illustrator, just a sketch, so you know beforehand what it will look, what colors you will use and what font-size etc.Quote:

It makes it easier to make the actual layout in CSS / XHTML since you already know before hand what the sizes will be so you don´t have to throw things around while you´re working, so this generally makes for cleaner CSS since you know what you´re doing.
Of course you can also start out straight with the CSS as long as you clean it up after you have your layout done.
