Currently I am using the '<' and '>' to show my sorted listview columns. I would like to use CHR(030) and CHR(031) which are the up and down arrows. How can I successfully convert those in VB.NET as currently it is giving me a symbol similiar to a square.

Those characters are not ment to be shown like that, they are control characters. If you really have to use a characterd font, try using something like windings, that has various little images.
I would suggest that you use an image instead, but of course, it all depends on what your doing, and how good you want it to look, and how much time you have to spend on it.
