Depends on the router, some are dead simple, some are a PITA. Usually you plug all your computers into it and type in it's IP address in your web browser (usually http://192.168.0.1) and configure it from there.
Oh also, the best guide you can get is usually the MANUAL :bigyello:.
Thanks . I thought I have to set an IP or some networking configurations .
:)
Usually they act as DHCP servers so your computer gets it's IP from it, you can change it all if you wish, but usually, they are just plug in, configure the internet connection and that's it, dead simple.
I've not bought it yet .... . It sounds real easy :D
Hello,
Routers are fairly simple to set up. I find Linksys routers easier. Just some tips and information are shown below.
Bascially, you shutdown everything, hook the Cable/DSL modem into the last ethernet jack, and hook any wired computers to the 1-4 jacks. I don't have the manual with me, but basically you set it up at the default http://192.168.1.1 web based configuration utility.
If your using wireless, and your phone or other electronics, seem to interfere with your connection, try changing the wireless channel to 3, or something that is not 6(default, and personally my phone interferes with my connection)
The manual is the best information, as all routers are different to set up. To set up your IP Address, it does it automatically. Your network IP address is going to be something similar to 192.168.1.x, where x is 100, 101, 102, depending on how many computers you have.
There is something that many don't understand. Your external (forgot what its called) IP address is your actualIP address. You need this for some applications that use the internet and use ports.
If you have any questions, just ask me.
