SQL: Using sub queries

I don't understand why this doesn't work:

FROM page
WHERE page_id IN (
  SELECT page_id
  FROM user_page
)

I know it won't seem to make sense why I would want to do this but this is what i simplified it to and it still didn't work :confused:
