mouse keyboard problem

something happen to my mouse and keyboard recently...i do not know its the hardware problem or software...

1) Occurs frequently...may change back to normal.
Mouse: when i click on one icon, the rest of the icons will be hightlighted too....( out of control)and when i db-click all the highlighted icons will be opened.
Keyboard: this problem occurs with the mouse...when i type lettes on any programs take msword for example , the letters are all caps locked, the numbers cannot be keyed in...everything go haywire.....the funny thing is these problems occurs irregularly...:(

as for the numbers not showing, check your Num-Lock key. You may need to go into the bios to set the "Boot up numlock status" value to ON.

Ditto Caps lock if applicable.

Otherwise check your keyboard and mouse for the latest drivers.

Failing that, you should try a different keyboard and mouse for a day or so and see if the problem persists. If so it's probably an OS problem.

I've seen this kind of thing many times before, and it is a hardware issue.

Basically a key (or sensor) on the keyboard has got stuck, it sounds like Shift in this case. You may be able to just hit both the shift keys a few times to temporarily make it better, or clean it to fix it. As keyboards are so cheap it wouldnt be too bad if you bought a new one.

I often spill my beverages on my keyboard and experience similar problems.

Usually its OK if you let it dry. But things like coca cola cause it to go stickey. The only option then is to take it to pieces and clean it all by hand with soapy water and leave it to dry. Granted keyboards on washing lines do atrract strange looks from the neighbours.

Alternitaivley you could purchase a new keyboard.

the thing is that..i bought the keyboard 2 years ago and the mouse more than five years!...and this problem occurs both device at the same time wonder maybe bios (as wat wossname
have said ) or the com port? :)...didnt spill anything over the board...:)

Think about what is happening - everything you have said is the effect you would get from always holding the Shift key.

wossname's suggestion would make sense if the problem was constant, but the fact it is irregular makes it look like a physical problem.

You dont need to spill anything on it for this to happen (although that causes it too!), it could be a bit of dust has found it's way in, or maybe somebody pushed the key too hard and damaged it.

Try another keyboard if you can (or clean yours as visualAd described), I'm sure it will be fine then.

hmm...so should i change the mouse as well to test out? it seems like the we have been talking abt changing keyboard and not the mouse..( or is it due to the keyboard that the mouse have this problem too?)
