Another question, this time about mobos [RESOLVED]

This is the first time that I have ever bought a motherboard, and I'm afraid to get ripped off, so I hold it open to you all to tell me if this is good or not:

ASUS SiS 648FX Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU, Model "P4S800" -RETAIL

I'm going to pay $67 for it. Is it a good board, I plan to put in a Intel P4 3.0 GHz with 1 GB (maybe eventually 2) of RAM with a kick-ass video card. Will this board do good for that? I really don't want to waste my money, heres the site that I play to buy it from:

I wouldn't suggest a SiS chipset.

Perhaps you should look into these: Intel® 875P chipset, VIA PT8*.

If you're going for a fast, stable board I'd suggest ABIT.

The little extra price brings you nice BIOS features, and a 'jumperless' board. They're also made for overclocking.

Since you're going Intel, RAMBUS RAM is the only way to go, DDR RAM can't keep up with it -yet.

Then again, I wouldn't suggest Intel, period. I prefer AMD. The money you save on the chip and ram can go toward that kick ass video card you want. I'd suggest the Radeon 9800 pro.

As for RAM... non-rambus, I have Crucial and have had no problems with it and exceptional performance, especially when clocked for performance.

Definatly get the Intel Chipset, if it don't got it, drop it. And forget about RD-RAM, tooo expensive, i made the wrong decision and i pay for it every day.

For a first time build this would be a great board at $67. Watch, you will get half way through this build and already be planning your next. I have built a few boxes and I am glad I went cheap with first one.

An Intel board is a little bit to expensive for me, I'm going to cut it close on this in terms of money, so this is going to be it. I did, however, find a $70 ABit one that seems to fit my needs, thanks for the help

I didn't say an Intel board, i said an Intel Chipset, they are the best chipsets for the Pentium 4, well worth the money.

I don't know if it's worth the money... that sounds like a personal compromise.

The best price/performance is with the SiS655TX, but stability may be questionable.

The VIA chipset that I mentioned (PT880) offers superior performance for processing graphics.

But overall, with CSA integrated, Intel does hold its own.

A lot of reviews I have read have stated them to be superior.

It's the fastest in quite a few benchmarks(certainly not all), so it's not neccessarily the best buy, there's only about one test(out of a dozen+) that I've seen where there would be a noticeable difference. If an overall boost of a few percent (not even 5%) is worth the extra money, go for it.

The next comparable board with an intel chipset would be the ABIT IS7-E2 for $83. The priors are value editions or micro ATX form factors. Is 38% more money worth the small performance increase?
