If you have opted to install a GUI such as KDE or GNome then you'll need to type startx at the prompt to start it up.
i never remember being asked to install a gui, and if a try to type in startx, it gives a unknown command message
k, i installed kde, got a hole bunch of errors, so i gave up and installed windows :P
alright, ill give mandrake a try :)
which version do your recommend? theres a mandrake move, mandrake community and a couple others, what is the best one?
I would recommend Mandrake 9.2.Quote:

Yup, I did the exact same thing as you. :p I started off with a few CD based distros and then when went to do my first harddrive install of linux, I choose Debian and I couldn't get it working because it didn't like my graphics card or something. :dunno:
Installed Mandrake 9.2 without any real problems at all. :) It'll do all of the repartitioning for you, so you can have Windows + Mandrake. :) If you have the time, consider downloading the second cd. I only got the first and its missing a few programs that I would have liked to have.
