I know how to change Win95 startup/shutdown BMP screens, but with Win98, only the shutdown screen file could be found in the system directory.
Is there any brave man who knows where the Win98 startup screen is situated?

Try putting the new screen into logo.sys and saving into the root directory...I'll try and see if it blows up...:)
I know... its an ancient secret passed down generation after generation... and here it is:
for win 98:
open ms paint, click FILE, OPEN goto the windows folder and there is a file called Logow.sys
open it up and there is the start up picture
also you can open Logos.sys which is the screen that says ITS NOW SAFE TO TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF
for win 95:
I forgot the names of the files, but there is a way to edit the shut down windows logo screen and the styart up logo screen
for all:
make sure to back up the original file
not alot of people know this, so remember it and you will become 1 step closer to mastering windows (and be like me who know almost everything about windows)
Actually, LOGOW.SYS is the "Please wait while your computer shuts down", and LOGOS.SYS is "It is now safe to turn off your computer". Simply create a new (compatible) bitmap, save as LOGO.SYS in the root of your boot drive...and it will work (I just tested it by copying LOGOW.SYS to c:\logo.sys
yea, I made a mistake, no one is perfect (besides noone)
So...you know everything about Windows, huh? Hehehe.
ask me anything
Okay...random question - you have 5 minutes to answer :):
Explain, in words of no more than 4 syllables, Virtual Address Translation.
Hehehe.
I just got back to my pc, it has to do with memory being translated before it can be accessed by the main memory
BTW I ment I know a lot how it works not definitions
DING DING DING DING!
Correct! Give that guy a lollipop.
I big and pretty one with red and white swirls LOL
I think you'll be having two before today is out (http://forums.vb-world.net/showthread.php?threadid=27910)

I'll second that.
Dimava: Good one: How do you add the Control Panel to your Start Menu (so that all the entries in it (like 'Display') are in a side menu). I've done it, so can you?
*Smiles smugly knowing the near-impossibility of the task*
If he doesn't know, can I answer? I know this one...
ok.... I'll give you step by step directions on how to do it... it seems long but I can do it like in 30 seconds
1. open my computer
2. doublc click on C:\ (or your main hard drive)
3. double click on windows
4. double click on start menu
5. minimize it
6. double click on my computer again
7. double click on ConTrol Panel
8. In the Control panel click EDIT>SELECT ALL
9. click EDIT>COPY
10. flip back to the start menu folder
11. click EDIT>PASTE
and there you go, now any computer illitarte person can change it with my instructions
you are probobly thinking of another way, but there's more then 1 way to skin a cat (or vb programmer in the case (lol)).
Oh dear. You missed my hint:
Create a new folder called "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" and put it into the Start Menu.
that will work too... but again
dim inta as integer
inta = 50
text1.text = inta
or
text2.text = "50"
neither are wrong, the second is a little faster, but you get the same result
Actually, with my method, whenever anything is added to the control panel, it will be automatically updated. Your method requires a new shortcut be created.
well maybe indirectrly but what you are doing is making a short cut to the control panel
Technically, I actually created a new Control Panel...
yea, in a way
This is stupid guys!
I thought you were decent members.
I have the knowledge to crash a computer, here I will tell you the big secret: smash it on the floor while power on and put it back on your desk. Turn the power on and amazingly you'll see that your computer does not longer works!
I didn't think we were talking about computers. However, for a laugh, try this.
WARNING!!! SAVE ALL WORK FIRST!!! THIS WILL CAUSE WINDOWS TO REQUIRE A REBOOT!!! (you won't lose any data, though).

only do this if you're a real maniac. or, as mad compie says, brave. hehehe :D
My wife loves rebooting the computer manually. She hates it when some program does it automatically.
Oh no, it doesn't reboot the computer...it leaves it too dead to do anything...:D:D:D
Load that web page and she'd have to reboot manually. :)
Thank you very much, my wife was very pleased. I wasn't. I don't like blue desktop colours...
What's <img src="file:///c|/con/con"> anyway?
You tried it? Coolness...
Windows 9x has a slight bug, as in if you attempt to load the file c:\con\con, it gives a BSOD. Therefore, by turning it into a file:///c|/con/con URL, it lets you get at it from a web page. An <img> tag is the most obvious 'carrier', since it is automatically loaded when the page is.
I think Microsoft programmers are really nuts! What kind of a stupid bug is this anyway? They are very lucky that I am not a Microsoft programmer!
