the IDE is D R A G G I N G.....

I am experiencing an incredibly LONG wait time between viewing the designer and the code. When I say long, I'm talking 30 seconds average before it switches tabs for me. It will hang like this either from me double-clicking a control to access it's default event or simply clicking on the code tab.

I have a LOT of controls and that's all I can think to blame it on at the moment.

Has anyone ever experienced this as well? How did you correct it? I could always cut a big chunk of code out of the code tab and paste it to a .txt file until I need it but I don't feel I should have to resort to that.

What's your system specs?

I get the something at work sometimes with complex forms but at home I don't. Although my system at home is probably twice as fast as my work computer.

Work:
Celeron 900Mhz
320 SD Ram
20 Gig 5,400 RPM drive over half full
Onboard video

Home:
AMD XP [email protected](400x11)
512 DDR Ram
36 Gig 10,000 RPM SATA drive less than half full
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

Just kidding, actually I can think of no other reason.

I had a 1.2ghz with 384mb sd ram earlier and now I have a 2.8 celeron with 512 mb ddr ram and I can really feel the difference.

Apparently the IDE is updating all of the "Windows Form Designer generated code" every time a property has changed, a control is added or deleted and any other events like that.

I don't think there's anything to do about it other than updating the pc.

i think the thing that makes the biggest difference (and i think i heard it mentioned on .net rocks) is the RAM. I have 512mb at home, and had 256 at work. Work was running really slow so i got them to upgrade and it's running really smooth now.

Just wish I could say the same for my coding!!!

I figured too that it was the windows generated code BUT, I have one GIG of ram at work and a 3 GHZ processor. I run my two monitors @ 1600 X something. I THINK that it may be the ram just gets full over a period of the day. I didn't think of re-booting the computer. hmm...

uumm well I have a 3ghz with 1gb ram here too:D I dont reboot often either... not closing VS.NET for a long time may cause the ram usage to go to high, but... besides that it shouldnt have anything to do with ram, I think

hmm...I'll have to pay close attention to what runs on my pc. I may not have noticed the admin tinkering with my pc or an auto defrag may switch on at a certain time. I'll check into my pc next for sure :wave:
