I believe the TweakUI utility put out by MS lets you change the background for the login screen.
To change it go to:
Use a registry editing tool to navigate to the following key:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
Change or add the following value:
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Name: Wallpaper
Value: [set to the full path of the logo]
Change or add the following value:
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Name: TileWallpaper
Value: 0 means don't tile, 1 means tile.
Change or add the following value:
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Name: WallpaperStyle
Value: 0 is normal, 2 is stretch to fill the screen
Please note, this is mutually exclusive with TileWallpaper
I always customize mine.
If you set the wallpaper to nothing "" instead of "C:\winnt\stupiid.bmp" you will end up with a blank blue logon screen
If you want to change the color try this.
To change the logon background colour:
Use a registry editing tool to navigate to the following keyl:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors\Background
Change the following value:
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Name: Background
Value: Decimal RGB value for the colour you wish to set, for example:
Red: 255 0 0
Green: 0 255 0
Blue: 0 0 255
Black: 0 0 0
White: 255 255 255
Just change the background twice and it'll be fine.
No need to do all the other crap
alphanumeric's answer is actually the correct way of doing it. It's very common in Win2K.
Good explaination by the way ;)
Not the same thing, he's talking about the logon screen. I believe you are referring to a screen that may show for a few seconds while your desktop is loading. You see it again when you shut down. I do it on purpose. I set up a bmp file for my desktop. Then enable active desktop. Now I switch to a jpg for my desktop. My bmp is a red maple leaf. I'm am Canadian.:DQuote:

To get ride of it you turn off the active desktop. Then the other desk top will show. Set your desktop image to none and turn on your active desktop. If you desktop is still blank just set your image again. Now you will probably get a blank blue screen flash up instead of the second image.
Thankyou.:blush:Quote:

If anybody is wondering how that screen gets changed, here's what I have observed. If you only have one user ,the admin, it stays at the normal screen. As soon as you add a second user the logon screen changes to the the desktop bmp that was used by the admin. I said I new how not why? I have no idea why? This is old news, I noticed it several SP's ago, so I don't know if it still goes down this way. I always change mine in the reg early on in the install. After all the SP's are done I hack my NTOSKRNL.exe and change my boot screen. I do it my way.;)
He said "like loging in" and since his friend did it, I figured he wouldn't have gone through the registry or anything and he just seen the old background for a couple of seconds when it came up.Quote:

Yes you are correct, could have been one or the other or both. Sorry I got carried away. I like tweaking windows to make it do what I want. :)Quote:
