3270 and telnet?

This doesn't really tie in with any specific language, so I thought I'd try it in here.

I'm looking for any documentation on sending and receiving data to/from a 3270 session using telnet. All my Google searches have ended up with products that do it for you, or wierd Russian sites.

Anybody know of any references?
