Attach PHP files

Could you add 'php' to the list of attachment extensions? It's currently not possible to attach php files without renaming them to something which is allowed.

Might as well go for the whole webfiles thing then. add to that .ASPX, .CFM, .PHTML, .PHP3, .CHM, .SHTML, .ASA

I think that's about it. And if you're drunk, add a .FROG extention too. :)

I'm making sure there are no issues (security) with including PHP file extensions. If none are found, then we will add this and the other extensions -- that make sense.

On a lot of forums, uploads are limited to compressed files and graphics.....

PHP files aren't executable...why should there be any security issues?

With a PHP file, wouldn't it just try to run the file when someone clicks on the attachment, rather than download it?

It would if it was stored in a directory.
If this board is configured like all the other vB forums I've seen, then it should store it in the mySQL database, and thus would not run the PHP file server side.

I'm neither for nor against adding more file types, but why bother? It's only a small extra step to attach them via a zip file.

But then to view someone's code, I'd have to download it, unzip it, and then open it, rather than just clicking a link.

People would be more open to helping others if there weren't so many steps involved. You know?

With XP you just double click the attachment and the OS asks if you want to open it. You then can double click any one of the files it contains. In other words unless you want to, there's no specific downloading or unzipping required.

That's actually a very annoying feature of XP. Causes a lot of trouble, and especially when trying to FTP.

I've never even seen this feature before. I think I got scammed on my copy of XP. :mad:

Additional file types were added last Friday -- just in case any of you didn't notice.....

(I agree with MartinLiss though -- zip files are a good way to go)
