Ive noticed this a couple of times in my math book. 2t^2 + 6t + 6 is factored as 2(t^2+ 3t + 3)
If that is the case why would it be incorrect to factor 2x^2 + 10x + 12 as 2(x^2 + 5x + 6)?

It is not incorrect.
As far as I know that isn't incorrect. It looks fine :confused:
So 2x^2 + 10x + 12 can be either 2(x^2 + 5x + 6) or 2(x + 3)(x + 2)?
If you analyse this : x^2 + 5x + 6 more yes you do get (x + 3)(x + 2) and you also have the 2 from before so, yes.
Thanks for the help. At least i have a valid arguement to present to my teacher if the factored expression is marked wrong for some reason. :D

BTW, in school they usually ask you to completely factor an expression, so 2(x + 3)(x + 2) is the only right answer...
