RedHat 7.2 (nedit)
I am using RedHat at school, now and wanted to install RedHat on my laptop so I could bring it to my lab classes. But 9.0 wouldn't install on my laptop, so Installed 7.2 in stead.
But at school I am using nedit to write C++. But I can't find it on my machine.....can I download it anywere....or any other good ideas?

Looh here for download locations. But if you are a real Unix fan you should use vi.

I am no Unix or Linux fan....I hate it....have been stuggeling to install my network card all day....
they want me to install kernel-source-2.2.16-22.i386.rpm into somewhere and when I try, it doesn't go where it is suppoes to go...at least not the right name. It said I should write
rpm -i kernel-source-2.2.16-22.i386.rpm
and then I should find it in
/usr/src/linux/pcmcia-cs-x.x.x
but there is no linux folder...Only a redhat folder, and I can't see no PCMCIA file there....this is starting to irritate me...
BTW thx for the URL....will test it in 30min...just have to test my new M4 first...:D

type at a bash prompt...
urpmi nedit
That will automatically download and install nedit for you.
Hope that helps.

Sorry m8, scratch that!
That URPMI command is for mandrake!

Firstly don't use a 2.2 kernel, there's no point. Get the latest Redhat 9.0, why wouldn't it install? That's probably the problem you're having...
-
After I had choosed all the apps that I wanted to install and the instalation had formated my HD....it came up a msgbox that said. Your machine does not support this version of RedHat.
Have you heard more ****....OK it's an old Laptop. But it should have worked anyway. So that was why I installed 7.2....it's from 2000, but it is running....not my network card tho'.....

Why don't you try to install 8.0 Maybe that works. Works for me fine. Snd I never had any trouble with the RPM things.
-
Maybe I should try...but where can I get it from?

In the end, GUI distributions just make the learning process harder >_<
Stick to text-based distributions, and get the bells and whistles later...
