Personally, I think it would be overkill. They could just be asked in General PC (which I think is the best place for them).
But I guess if an overwhelming number of people saw a need for such a forum, go for it.
I think it would be ok if there really was enough interest. It seems like elsewhere on the net antivirus topics are already covered in depth.
No, only stupid people get viruses :p
recently released virus 'blaster' doesn't requare people's participation to get PC infected. All you need to do is to be connected to the internet.Quote:

So, do you fill yourself smarter than anybody now?
It will be as busy as Qbasic forum . The golden advice is : If you are able to access your OS , and copy your files from the infected partition , get them and do Format C: . Or install firewall plus antivirus program and get protected .
well "stupid" people don't keep up to date with windows updates... the hole that allowed blaster in was repaired a while before the virus surfaced... people just don't update their PCs like they should...Quote:

My system didn't get infected with blaster . I no longer update my system(since it messes things up on my machine) . Just I keep updating my norton . So , am I stupid ? The point is , the update thing is not always the secret weapon . There are things that work hand in hand to protect you .
Since I format on a regular basis and have dialup, I don't want to waste time going through Windows Update after every format. It's just be a waste of time, I feel.
I keep Norton updated, and that seems to be all I need. Granted, I had a problem last week, but my virus scanner never detected anything and I'm led to believe it was just a messed up configuration.
Maybe when I get high speed access, I'll start updating Windows often.
no your not stupid... i dont think people are stupid for not updating their PCs... kasracer said that.. i was refering to his statement which is why it was in quotes... but i do feel that keeping windows patched with at least the updates for serious flaws is a smart thing to doQuote:

I also think that in addition to anti-virus that a firewall is also a requirement these days.
However , high security levels result in low speed connection and low performance . I had Norton Internet Security installed last month , it slowed everything .
yeah i scrapped that too...Quote:

i have a router so that has a firewall.. i also use zonealarm... zonealarm doesnt slow things down from what i have seen... i just really use it to alert me when programs try to access the internet i might not want to
I use McAfee PersonalFirewall Plus. It's excellent.
