try folder options? or is there a reason you want to use the registry?
Click my computer ------>Tools menu--------->Folder Options---->View tab-------> then view the attachment I posted here .
Sorry , I should've read your post carefully . My above post won't help you in this case .
I am needing to use the registry b/c this feature is really screwing up my program when i have to rename files of known filetypes. I was wanting to be able to "remember" what it was set at, Change it for my program, and then change it back if necessary.

Run "regmon" and then do it.
You can get regmon from www.sysinternals.com
