The latest build I saw was still 4015 and it is still expected to be out in 2005.
As of today

Longhorn's Current State
Windows “Longhorn” is currently slowing working its way towards beta stage. Beta 1 of Windows “Longhorn” is scheduled to ship sometime in early 2004. The latest known build of Windows “Longhorn” is alpha build 4015 (M5). While build 4015 does offer a glimpse of what’s to come in “Longhorn”, it does not yet feature the new Aero GUI (instead it includes a temporary GUI known as Plex) or WinFS file system.
hmm i already see something wrong in that though..
I dont think WinFS is a file system. It sits on top of the NTFS file system and acts as a service. It's Windows Future Storage and it makes the physical location of files on the hard drive irrelevant to the OS. I think thats what i heard...so dont quote me on it..
I thought Plex was the graphical user interface they were going to use for the next OS. What is the Aero GUI? Also, i heard of Avalon or something..what is that?

Longhorn Build 4015
Look at the 8th picture down..it shows one of the windows swaying. Is this in the current build of longhorn, and is that part of the DCE..(which i have no idea what that is either...so if anyone could please explain that to me..lol)?
...and finally..Is longhorn going to affect programming in VB, or any other language, greatly or just slightly?
2005...sure are taking their time on this one. I don't really mind though as long as they keep those service packs coming...Quote:

Oh and I doubt that with .NET now in place that Longhorn will affect VB programming all that much.
EDIT: DCE may force changes to graphics programming as it makes GDI+ obsolete, and GDI archaic. However I'm sure there will be plenty of backwards compatability....

Strike you as a bit odd?
If we are to assume that "down the road" represents future product releases, then how come XP 64 bit is before XP Pro (and a host of other strage things...)
Perhaps the artists just had too much fun.
No, those are just the current OSes that they have developed and that are currently being shipped. It's all in one group and not in a particular order.
