Hi all,
I might switch to Java...since thats current and its a HUGE language, better or same as C++... Does anyone know where to get a compiler? I also need a Java Forums or something like that..is there one on these forums? If so, please help me out and name a few sites like pscode or something like that...

and for the similarities between Java and C++ , they are in the syntax . Which is better ? Well , each one has its own job (Java is more internet programming language or to be more specific for web pages , on the other hand , C++ is , I always say this , damn for everything else .
Java is for programming games on cell phones - that's about it.
Oh games , for games JavaScript is heavily used like in flash games , and 3D designing programs like 3D max , Maya and that stuff .
With JAVA one good thing is you wouldn't have to worry about learning new syntax all the time as it is with MS. :D
People spent precious years learning and mastering a language and these MS people just screw everything up by expiring the existing syntax and releasing a new one. The worst part is even the new syntax is new for 2-3 years. :D Some might consider it a good thing that you're learning new all the time, but heck who needs it. They are making money that's all they care about.
With JAVA .. what they use to support in version 1 is still supported in version 3.
Thats about it? WHAT???!?!?! Java is written for more than just cell phones. We use it to interface with assembly lines (embedded systems). Its used in the database market (jdbc). Its used in your CELLULAR PHONES (more embedded systems). Its used in jcard technology (like credit cards). Its all over the web. It can be used on the server side (servlets) or on the client side. It can be embedded into web pages (applets). It has been used in numerous vehicles as a vm for navigation systems. There is more to java than cell phone games.Quote:

BTW: Java was written in the C language. C/C++ is more powerful than Java because of the usage of memory addressing and pointers. Although Java doesnt use the pointer notation..it uses objects as memory. Java's a tad easier for cleanup with the garbage collector...but at times the run time efficiency or process of cleaning allocated memory isn't quite as fast as C++'s destructors. The only problem with these is you need to release the memory.
That's what I hate in MS Policy . They just keep updating , changing , removing , the synatx over period of time this would make the programmers and developters confused and hinder them to continue their work . Like what's happening with VB . They released VSNET 2002 , which is far different from VB6 . Now , they released VS.NET 2003 , which some little changes . I dunno about other languages but I bet they would do the same . Oh yea , they also released completely new language called J# . It's java I believe .
Everyone seems to hate MS...but if you hate it so much why do you use it? No one at microsoft comes up to you and says you MUST learn J# / C# / .NET or whatever. If you pick up a book on this stuff or buy into this stuff..than you support this stuff. So if you dont want .NET to succed dont use it. But wait you're going to say all the new OS's and Software require it right? Well dont use that OS or that software. There's linux, java, etc.Quote:

I know a lot of corporations still using 2k with plain old C, C++, vb5/vb6. They don't want to change over to .NET or anything new like XP because it could affect their businesses. The problem with huge corporations is they build their structure close to what technology they are using. Changing technology means changing the business...which is very difficult and risky in the corporate business. I dont think any of this old stuff will die out for some time. I do think however..that if you dont like .NET or any of that other schmanigin sh** than dont use it. Dont download it, dont buy it, dont support it, etc. Just dont sit here and bi*** about it. People seem to think MS is in control...well they are for a reason...because of you :).

I do love .NET but I don't care about MS . They are selfish , just they think of how to get the money . Why other compnaies didn't do the same as MS did (change their lanuages syntax) ? They do care about their users , developers , customers .

I only use MS becuase our corporation here uses it and the majority of the stuff we do is just MS Products. Otherwise at home im dual booting on nix and winders. Im using a lot of java, php, apache, all this stuff is open source free. No complaining...good software out there.Quote:

Hi all,
Half of my head thought that since the colleges and stuff are teaching Java, I thought Java was like not for internet, and for gaming or stuff. Half of my head was right that thought it was similar to JavaScript and it was internet programming. Well now I see what Java is, because of you all (thx), and because of one side of my head (:D).
I'm pretty much programming for fun, since I'm not old enough to do much... Obivously since I've been programming in VB6 and want to know Java or C++ I want to do something with my life, like programming, IT, Computer Engineering or something. But the point is, I don't really need internet programming, so I guess I'm going to start on C++, a more flexible language, WAY MUCH more than VB6... On PSCode they have source code for C/C++ so that will be a help. Also on these forums they have C/C++ forums. Mainly I think I'm going to read my brothers AP Book. May be a little advanced for my age, but owell.
Thanks for your suggestions and comments about Java. Now I really know what it does :D lol and what not.

btw , I just remembered a funny thing about MS . Sorry MS , I love you , their products are easy to crack . I've VS.NET 2002 , VS.NET 2003 all Archit Enterp. lol , We just need some time to understand MS . This what makes me keep using their prodcuts ! .

hehe :D , money ? When I said money I's talking about something like 1999 bucks and more . Is that worth a program just for fun (like programming for fun ) ? I prefer to save some money and spend them on Hardware rather than buying softwares .Quote:

You have no idea how much corporate companies are pissed off with this M$ policies. I have nothing against MS and I love there work ( after all i've programmed in VB and WEB a lot ) but there is a limit to everything.
