Front-Panel IrDa
Seeing an ASUS I-Panel for sale at a local computer-store, I was intrigued. The device had front audio, serial port, USB, temperature, and fan monitors. However, my hopes were shot down when I found out that it was only available for ASUS motherboards (why I had even thought otherwise now seems stupid to me). Anyway, now I'm in the market for something that I can attach in a 3.5" or 5.25" drive bay and connect to the IrDa connector on my motherboard (ABIT KD7-E, though I wouldn't think it would matter...).
Anyone know some good products? I don't want anything but the IrDa at the front... if it would be easier to make it myself, I will, but I would appreciate some feedback ;)

Abit MediaXP / MediaXP Pro.
I use it with my AT7-MAX2, and it works a treat.
IT HAS:
SD (Secure Digital)
MS (Memory Stick)
CF (Compact Flash)
2 x USB2.0
1 x IEEE1394 Firewire
1 x SP/DIF Optical
1 x Headphone socket
1 x Microphone socket
Oh... and a remote control for WinDVD & WinRIP. Nice piece of kit for £28.
I need to check with my account manager at Abit, but I think it should work.
The MediaXP doesn't have the remote, it's only the PRO version that does.
As regards the fan monitors... they would need to be on a seperate riser, but really... do you need one?
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Paul.

Yes, but does it have IrDA or just a "built-in" remote? I need the IrDA for Linux interoperability.

It's just a remote i think...
but you can re-program the IrDa in linux if you wish!
