Ok this is off topic but i've looked everywhere and i need help...
When i try and install Windows XP Professional on my machine...it locks up at the MS-DOS part where it says, "Please wait while the files are copied to your hard drive".
I formatted my hard drive using a Windows 98 Boot Disk (cause if you format your hard drive using the Windows Me boot disk..it causes problems..*surprise*)
Anyway, can anyone help me?
Try copying the i386 folder to your drive, and run install from there.
Can't think of any reason why can't you install it. Does it just get stuck on that message or takes too long to copy files...??? Have u actually tried to copy the whole I386 folder to C drive and then try to install from HDD...??? Try this things and let us know the result...Quote:

Ok, so i copied the i386 folder to the hard drive..and the system hangs on the "Please wait while files are copied to the hard drive" part...
So, what i did is just install Win98 without any special options...just the basic system and then put the WinXP Pro CD in and then install it..
and that worked..so i got WinXP Professional up now..
Also, my CD-RW doesnt seem to be working right. When i put a CD in..it doesnt read it automatically and i have to open the tray and close it again over and over again until it works. So, what i did is that i took the cover off and turned it on and i watched it spin up and it looks as if it's wobbling while it's spinning. When it's wobbling like that, the laser can't read the CD. But, i press the CD down onto the motor (so that the hole in the CD fits over the motor part) and it spins without as much wobbling.
My guess is that the ball bearings in the motor are just old. I have had this drive for about a couple years now. Does anyone know how i can fix this or do i have to buy a new one? (I'm buying a faster one anyway..Lite-on 52x24x52. But i'd like to keep it and put it in another machine).
Does your machine meet all requirements ?
It looks like you have corrupt cd or the device itself as you said .Lifespan is outdated dude , you gotta buy new one:p
2-3 years is the average lifespan of a CD-RW? that sucks...
It looks like the device is broken..but i want to know if it's worth getting fixed so that i can put it in a crap machine..

Now: Creative RW8432E (or RW8438E...one of those) and i'm going to buy a Lite-on 52x24x52. I was thinkin plextor but..i dont have 110 bucks for their 48x24x48, so i found a Lite-on for $55.
why don't u buy SONY 52-52-24...Its going to cost u $55..but its an OEM so u wont get any software or IDE cable but its allright I guess...Quote:

Personally I am a fan of SONY and they last long with 100% efficiency...But the last choice is urs anyway...

well i heard that sony and liteon are both really good companies that make CD-RW drives..and I heard plextor rocks. What other companies make good CD-RW drives that last?

I had my compaq cd drive last for atleast 5 years and thats an old system.
We are talking about CD-RW...Do u mean to say that ur Compaq CD-RW lasted for 5 years...No offence to joke but I am confused...Quote:

eeh i'm not a big fan of compaq...in fact i'm not a big fan of big computer companies like HP or Dell (i did like dell but they are like..starting to do what compaq did a while ago. You can like only use their parts..ya know?).

Keep in mind that not all burners support all burning softwares .If I'm not wrong , Yamaha is the best but its only shortcoming is that it requires its original software .Quote:

No, he means that it uses special burning functions that make it only work with the software designed for it.

And my main PC is a 3 or 4 year old compaq, and has never given me any trouble at all... =P

I said I'm not sure in which part it's awarded . BTW , burner companies don't mention the exact burning speed ! You can't copy a full cd in 3 minutes .Quote:

burn a CD in 3 min? yeah you can...my friend has a plextor 48x24x48 drive and it burned one in 2:30.
They just say that . Forget about the timer in the software . Use your own calculations . You will end up with 6 or more minutes . I've read an aricle some time ago about this and I did my calculations and found the result is more than the actual speed .Quote:

Well to open a software, tell it to burn CD and choose files to burn are not considered in time...Just the time when u hit the BURN button and burning starts then start the stop watch and when it finished stop it and it is nearly 3 minutes...

How can the software timer be wrong? Right when my friend clicked burn, the timer started and when it stopped it said 2:40 and the CD tray opened.. if you're talking about the whole process of opening the software...loading files..and then burning, then it took probably 4-5 min. His computer is insane though...2.8GHz Intel Pentium 4, ATi Radeon 9700 Pro, 120GB HDD, 400W power supply, 16x DVD-ROM, 52x CD-ROM, Plextor 48x24x48 CD-RW, Creative Audigy 2, and like 6 system fans and 4.1 400W Klipsch ProMedia speakers.
Anyway..how could the timer be wrong? Doesnt the timer go by the system clock or somethin?
Thats because if your computer is pretty mush fast as speed of light so the time goes slow for it...:p And for the timer to be faster then original time oops....................something wrong with software...:eek: :cool: ;) :DQuote:
