Recently Ihave faced the following problem with my WinXP, SP1. I have 3 partitions, all NTFS on a 40 gig Hard. When I open windows explorer, not My Computer, clicking the drive D: on the left pane (Folders view) will hang the explorer. This drive is not full, nor has lots of folders. No other drive has this problem.
Any Idea?
Depending on what mobo you have maybe update the via4in1 drivers. Also try checking if it is set to PIO instead of UDMA in the device manager under IDE/ATA Controllers.
Do Disk Cleanup , CheckNow and defragment and see if this helps!
The mobo is Giga 8ID with intel chipset, not via. And I have done no obivous change recently.Quote:

can you access the drive from the command line? try NDD or chkdsk on it to see if somethings up...also check the partition tables.
I can access it from command line, did chkdsk too, not NDD (although powerful, i dont feel comfortable with it). No errors i got, no bad sector. nothing. I did defragment despite XP said you dont need it. No success. I wonder why its just happens when i first click on the folder view. if I click on it in the right window it opens without any problem and then clicking on the left window wont make any problem too.Quote:

I think i found the problem. I have a large zip file about 750mb on the root drive of D with abour 23000 file and folders and despite having winzip, the internal zip support of XP tries to read (and unzip) the folders and files in the zip file. So it shows this behaviour, and moving it to a folder solved the problem. I dont know how to disable this feature.
