partitions, formating, etc. ?

How can I partition my hard drive?
How can I format only one partition of my hard drive?
How can I acess partitions from DOS?

This is what I think I want:
Partition1: Windows2000 Pro setup files (for installation)
Partition2: Windows 2000 Pro system files
Partition3: VisualBasic.NET program files or maby just ALL Program files
Partition 4: Documents

Right now I have:
Partition1: Windows 2000 Pro Setup files(for installation)
Partition2: Everything else


Ideas? Objections? Comments? How do I do this?

Keep in mind that all HDs can have 4 primary partitions (means 4 sperated partitions ).The tutorial will answer all of your questions !
one more thing , it's highly recommended to format your Volumes in NTFS .

So Partition Magic is the only way to partition hard drives, correct?

No, you could use fdisk, but you might end up screwing up everything you already have. :)

I've never seen any of those films......

How will you do that ???

wait wait , it is possible but not in dos mode ! either you plug it with another HD or you have to have OS on one partition to run PM .

My dad said that he partitioned his 8088 using a (for get how to spell it but edland) command....

any mistake you do with FDisk will destroy your HD Partitions and your data will be deleted . My advice is , install the OS first and then partition your HD .

If I partition my hard drive before I install anything on my computer then there will be no data to be lost.

Before this , you need to have startup disk . Well , if you know how to use FDISK very well , I guess there should be no problem otherwise your data is lost . lol :D

I'm not sure % 100 sure if XP can create primary partition if it's not even formatted . :rolleyes:

I don't know how to use FDISK....
I'm going to try it on a old computer first and see how it goes.

easiest way i did it was to get another hard drive. All you would need to do is make it have 2 partitions and then move info accordingly.

I am not sure I am giving u the right solution but the file I am attaching is a stand alone app.

Its a very powerful partition manager but its a dos based utility so copy it along with ur boot floppy and just type the name.

Through the interface u can do lots of stuff...

Moderate - > Advanced user

Might be helpful to someone...
