IDE Driver Problem
I'm currently using windows 98 and I was told to install my IDE drivers since I didn't do it when I formated my computer. So I found out what my motherboard was and installed the driver for it but It didn't speed up my harddrive, cd rom, etc. and now my Imation 48x24x48 CD-RW burner stops at 20% and gets an error (SCSI/ATAPI Command Timeout Error) Note: I'm using nero 5.5. So I then uninstalled my IDE driver hoping that It would work again but windows then Said that I had a SiS 5510 Motherboard (Which I really have a SiS 660 (I Think!)) so I installed it but it still had the same error and the speed hadn't changed but now I don't know how to get rid of this driver since I didn't install it using it's installer. Also someone told me that turning DMA on could fix it. If that is true how can I do it. Also if you can tell me how to uninstall the current driver. And anything else that I should know so that I can fix it.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry I currently have a SiS 620 motherboard and/or IDE controller.

You may be sharing the CD-RW drive with your hard drive. Whilst some work fine, we recommend you have each drive on a seperate IDE if possible.
Primary IDE
1. Hard Drive
2. NONE
Secondary IDE
1. CD-Rom (If you have one)
2. CD-RW
That's the best set-up for an ATAPI drive. Also, update your Nero version via the net.

Paul.

DMA settings are in computer management --> hardware manager (NT derivatives)
This sounds like you have a driver scramble though... anyways do as VisionIT says and if that doesn't work, reformat and install hte drivers properly...
also check for a bios update just in case...
