Because of the simple reason that processors do not have a serial number, you can not read it. (Beside the one printed on it).
Erm.....PIII = serial number = lots of 'big brother' stylee bad press!

I think if it could be read by the system or a website, would it be some sort of API?
Does the Athlon have PSN as well?

Well I have only PII :)
And for what I know you can't read that value unless done so from the BIOS or some manufacture-delivered software which works explicit for that type of system.
So just reading a PSN is hard enough without running a bunch of little dos programs and reading their output, also, if you'd wun a unix system it'd be easy as hell, but most of us are "microshit-os"-users and can't do nothing about it but accept it and think it's good.
