Iis 5.0

I have a cable connection with a dhcp and all of a sudden my webserver disappeared. I can not even view my pages any more
any suggestions why this has happened?

How are you attempting to view your pages?
By IP address?
127.0.0.1?
computer name?
localhost?

Also, has the web server itself disappeared, or is it just not working anymore? Have you checked the IIS manager to see if the site is 'running'?

It did disappear one time and another time it was there but not working at all
I view my pages using all methods except using the backloop to the internal server with the 127.0.0.1

I don't understand. Is it working now? Or you're still having problems?

It is working fine now but I am afraid that it might disappear on me again later.

Actually, I've had this problem myself in the past. Thrice. I had IIS, with Windows NT 4.0 Server (I'm guessing you have either 2K or XP).

So I don't know if our problems are similar. In my case, twice the bug manifested itself mysteriously, and vanished just as mysteriously. The third time, it was due to installation of a service pack. I scoured the Internet looking for answers, and of course, no answers. :)

My only suggestion (from experience) is that you reinstall IIS each time it shuts down on you, and the only form of prevention you can implement is being careful about things you install. I have a feeling that installations do affect the configuration of IIS.

Yes, a crude method. I'm sorry if I couldn't help much. If you ever do figure out why this happens (many many years in the future when I'll be older than Dick Clark and I have to live on an Iron Lung), do post back here.
