Is this possible? I have books and example code for directx7 but you can no longer download the sdk for this version. If i install the v9 sdk can i still develop and run the examples?
Also, is there a really simple setup program for dx7 anywhere? I really just want a basic system where there is an onscreen and an offscreen buffer (surface?), and a main loop which flips them every frame, and thats it. The dx9 examples are huge.

I have never tryed DX9, but if you, so I don't know if you have the DX7 library in the SDK. Bu I have a link here for you to download DX7...;)

In the DX7 SDK it is some examples that is not too big. I think you will find what you need right there....

DX9 doesn't have support for VB6. You can still use DirectDraw in DX9 in C++, but you don't get any documentation for it (you do, but it's hidden and not very good).

No. The DirectDraw docs in DX7 are in plain view, with lots of knowledge and techincal background and some code samples.
The DirectDraw docs in DX9 are a part of the DirectShow docs and just references to the interfaces, nothing more.
