Help, keyboard not responding...

I have reciently been having problems getting a few keys of mine to respond... I know its part of windows something wrong, but I cant fix it.... I think its because I installed a debugger thats in dos, and when I press ctrl F it would load it.I think it messed up my keys, and some of them aren't responding... (the six, the minus/underscore, Home, delete, and the squiggly thing...lol)

I uninstalled the Debugger, and it isn't running on the computer (as far as I know) are there any more precedures I can do to try and remove the debugger even more, or try to fix my keyboard?

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Try to boot from a DOS disk and see if you still have the problem. When you get to the A: prompt try the keys that didn't work, including the ~ "tilda". If it works you will need to check your system start up files i.e. (AUTOEXEC.BAT & CONFIG.SYS) to see where your keys are being remapped.

no, still had problem in dos...

Erm...

...have you tried repeatedly hitting your keyboard with a suitably heavy item of desk furniture?

(monitors are useful for this)

If you used a clean boot disk then you may have a hardware problem.

If you have a programable keyboard then see if there is a way to reset it.

Try somebody else's keyboard and see if you have the same problem. All of this is to be done from a clean DOS boot disk, if you don't you could end up running in circles.

well I am on a laptop...so changing the keyboard wouldn't really be a very good solution...What exactly are you saying I should do when I boot up with a clean boot disk? just see if I can type in the a: drive?

When i put in a keyboard from my other computer it works fine... In the debugger I think the program might have messed up my settings because it was made to use a French Keyboard layout (didn't know this) So where can I find out if I can reset my keyboard settings?

ok, under system properties/and the keyboards driver file details... I found this file

C:\windows\syste\VMM32.VXD(ntkern.vxd)

All other files in that window are from Microsoft...except for that one, and it says "Not Available". I also remember deleting .vxd files when ininstalling the debugger... should i delete the file above?

Format a disk in your A: Drive and check off the copy system files options. Then reboot your computer with this disk and try the above test.

I don't know what this file is for.

good think i backed the file up after I deleted it...

"Windows can not start without the file"

And I formatted the disk, then it says "Invalad Disk In Drive" when I boot up with it...

I thought you could only boot up with a start up disk...

Take it back to the supplier, deny all knowledge, claim you have only used it to type up your grocery list, and get them to fix it for you:):):)

Get on another machine

Format a: /s -> should give you a system disk to boot from.

Was this a Win95 or Win98 machine ? If so just use the system disc that you made during os load, or did the supplier do that. If so resort to method one above, and scream and wave your arms around alot about them not supplying you with the disk. Claim you have loss money and contracts, threaten to talk to your lawyer about their lack business practises. I usually find at about that stage they fix it for free just to shut you up.

Welllllllllll I actually have a long ass warrenty on this thing..so most of that wont be needed...I already have a boot disk...but what am I supposed to do with it? Just restore all of the system files?

You just boot the computer up with the disk that you created in your A drive. It will help you determine whether the problem you have is with your hardware or your OS, as noted above.

If this confuses you then I would do as Jetho says and return the computer and let them correct the problem.

...to get you back to the virgin install situation. Put disk in Drive A, (or the first accessed drive on bootup, presupposing this is in correct format), and reboot your Laptop. Windows will work you through. Have used on a couple of occasions to fix problems caused by making a silly mistake.

Ok, this time I actually made a 98 boot disk from the "make boot disk" option...

Good thing I did this... according to the people who sold me the computer I should have done this... "use your recovery cd, and it will format your drive and reset everything." yeah good idea if you dont have tons of software installed on your system, and a lot of project files and whatnot...
