Java Compile problem on Linux

I have created a basic java file, HelloWorld.

When I try to compile the program with javac in Linux the program does nothing, it just goes to a blank line and I have to press CTRL - C to stop it.

Has anyone got any clue as to what is happening

PS I have set up the PATH, I have not setup the CLASSPATH, but I am not importinig any files the program looks like this

public class LinuxTest
{
public static void main(String args[])
{
System.out.println("Hello World");
}
}

to compile it I type javac LinuxTest.java

Maybe javac is corrupted...
