vBulletin has a more professional, polished look to it, which is customisable to a great extent. It is paid so there are no real restrictions in the way of host advertising or obtrousive copyrights. phpBB is good, but {I think} it's free and it has a more amateur look.
To me anyway.
Could you do me a favour M8...
Take a look at my forums, and see what you think. It obviously uses phpBB, but does it look tacky or un-professional?
Honestly...
If it "doesn't cut the mustard", i'll change to vBulletin.
Thank you.
Regards,
Paul.
I took a look, it looks awesome to be honest. Normally I wouldn't say such a thing, but phpBB does really shine through in this case. Though I think you can see what I mean (phpBB goes for that metallic finish, next-gen graphics, while vBulletin is the workhorse).
Thanks M8, that means a lot :)
Having just been re-coding the SSL forums, i can see exactly what you mean.
I have tried several styles of forum, without the affect i need for Vision, but I think i've cracked it now!
Although i'll probably view it 2moro, and hate it! :) I'm just that shallow! LOL
Thank you for all your comments, and I hope you'll visit soon.
Kind regards,
Paul.
I think I will :) Where is your business located, by the way? I'll be taking many visits to the UK and may stop by next time I go

Our doors open @ 9:00am and close @ 5:30pm Mon-Sat. We are still in the process of moving (to aldridge), and it really is time consuming ! :)
Well, i look forward to seeing you both in the forums & in person :) Discount's for kind members

Paul.
Blimey, my Aunt lives in Burntwood, and I lived there or 4 months!
What road M8?

I was 23 and had just left Uni - tried 4 months to get a job as a Laboratory Assistant. I left the same day as I was refused a job in the local Fish & Chip shop for being inexperienced"
Dark days....
I go past that road everyday! :)
If she ever need's anything... let her know i'm here. LOL
Kind regards,
Paul.
I think vBulletin is better. It loads faster, etc.
Thanks for all the comments, it's been a big help.
Regards,
Paul.
P.S Feel free to post more! :)
I quite like Invision Board. It has a few things that need fixing, but I've changed from phpBB to it.
Yeah, IPB is a really solid forum package. It's made by one of the ex-developers of Ikonboard, I believe. Though it's very new, it already has just about everything vBulliten and phpBB have--maybe even more. It's definately worth checking out.
Casting a vote for XOOPS
-- but it's more of a content management system than jsut forums...
