Well, that whole electricity, or whatever it was, from the fingers deal wasn't exactly the best PR one could ask for.
How did palpatine become a Sith Lord anyway ? He's never shown any talent or aspirations towards it.

Just think of the job creation he did though - all those stormtroopers and other support staff would have been out of a job without him.
