Two child Forms/1 MDI

ok I am writing a program for a friend of mine and he drops a bomb on me today for an idea.

Here is what I would like to do... Please tell me if this is possible...If so then how?

I have 1 mdi form with a tool bar
In this form I would like to have:
1 Form to the left (serving as a fancy navigation area) - This form sits to the left but cannot be resized top to bottom BUT can be resized left to right...

2nd Form will sit to the right and can shrink/Fills the gap where the other form leaves off... It can be closed etc etc etc...

how in the good lords name do I even attempt to create such a monster?

Please give me some input here...
