Hi Guys,
I am having cd drive and dvd drive to my computer.
When i connected cd drive and dvd drive to my computer.
It only recognising dvd and not cd player.
And how can i create another drive to the cd driver to recognise the drive.
Can any one help me in solving my pc problem?

get a splitter from any shop that sells computer cables .like Radio Shack
There is no such object as a splitter !!! If the system only notes a DVD player and not CD player (or virsa versa), it just means you have the jumpers wrong on the back on the DVD/CD player.
Look at the rear of both drives, and you should see this..

These are the jumpers
The jumpers usually look like this...

Master(M) Slave(S) Cable Select(CS)
You need to make sure the CD is on Master, and the DVD is on slave, otherwise the two will create what is called an IRQ conflict.
Reboot when you've finished, and make sure the BIOS (usually delete key while cold booting) lists the two drives on seperate channels.

Yes there is a power cable splitter. He editted his post though to a completely different question.
VisionIT is correct, except it doesn't make an IRQ conflict, it's more a cabling conflict.

You're quite right, there is a power splitter available, although i wouldn't recommend it. The PSU is built to give an equal voltage down each cable, so splitting the power cables for fans is OK, but secondary hard drives is not advisable. If you need more power cables, i'de upgrade your PSU to 400Watt.
I thought you meant IDE splitters BTW, again... sorry. The maximum 40pin IDE's available through one cable is 2 (3 including the motherboard riser)
Oh... JoshT, remember the old ISA SCSI expansion cards with manual IRQ and DMA settings... CD-Rom's/DVD's/CD-Rw's all use the same old technology. The IRQ of the primary and secondary channels are controlled by the device connected (NOT IN RAID or SATA 150), that's why firmware upgrades are released for CD-Rw's and DVD's, as the architecture of some drives conflict with some mainboard drivers. If you've ever used those cheap crap ECS boards, you'll know what i mean. lol
Anyway... the offer still stands. If you are still having trouble, give me a bell. The mobile number is probably the best number at the mo, as were moving premises (finally!)

Yes, I know that ATAPI is a poor man's SCSI, but I have never seen a IDE/ATAPI device itself use an IRQ. The controller will use one, but I'd assume the master and slave and the channell would both use the same IRQ as their parent controller was assigned. Unless Windows System Information has been lying to me. Also, I was under the impression that CD-RW drive firmware upgrades were to make them compatible with more brands/dyes of CD-R/CD-RW media.Quote:

Firstly....
An IRQ is made up of several complex items, including I/O (Input & Output Ranges)
IRQ's are built up of hex addresses, of which I/O is one of them. Now... when a cd-rom and DVD are installed properly, they are on the same IRQ (agreed), although they are on a different I/O range. If a cd-rom and DVD are NOT installed correctly, they create an IRQ conflict. IE, the IRQ remains the same, but the IO ranges conflict. Therfore, when you disable a channel, only a certain range is disabled. If it disabled the IRQ, both the primary and secondary channels would be rendered useless. VIA boards usually come with the option on switching off a channel for diagnostics purposes.
Secondly....
Take a DETAILED look at Plextor's site, and tell me what you see regarding firmware upgrades... hmm...
